DAD, [born 11 feb 1904], GEORGE REID ELLIS SERVED HIS APPRENTICESHIP AS
A CAST IRON FITTER at Ballantine’s of Bo’ness[Borrowstouness
this would mean that he started at at age 14/15. [ca age 14/15 to ca age 19/20]
later dad went to Canada[

My father, George Reid Ellis migrated, From Bo'ness Scotland via
Greenock and Quebec on the SS Montcalm to the Clegg family at 44 South
Alma St Guelph (near Toronto) in Nov 1929.
He
went back to Bo’ness when the great depression started to bite hard and
long dole queues formed IN CANADA. Dad told us laddies, that when he
saw the native Canadians[IE THE WHITES], NOT THE INDIANS] in the queues
it was time to leave for home[Scotland-bo’ness] where he would be able
to get a bowl of soup. this was his way of describing the depression.
Mum and `i went to Canada about 20 years ago and spoke with a lady, whose father was the owner of the
‘GILSON’S OF GUELPH FOUNDRY’ SHE WAS REALLY LOVELY AND DOWNLOADED HER MEMORIES OF HER FATHERS LIFE.
DAD TOLD US THAT THE FOUNDRY HAD A WOLF IN A CAGE, SHE TOLD US THAT HER FATHER WAS A KEEN ANIMAL EXPERT, AND ZOOLOGIST

Hello from Canada. I doubt there is any connection but...my grandfather, Robert Alexander Ellis had a brother by the name of George
Ellis. Father was William Ellis, Mother was Margaret Clark of County
Ross. My Grandfather did come over to Canada on the Montcalm in 1927.
Any of this ring any bells?
