The Wally Dug

Many Scottish homes had a "wally dug" (china dog) on the mantlepiece above the fire. In fact, there were often two - one on each side.

Maw and her Wally Dug
Maw brought out to Aus, when she migrated[ca 1971]-check from my research], ONE Wally Dug.
The story as remembered [by GFE], goes like this;

SCENARIO-ELLIS household at 15 Gateside Avenue Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire Scotland
The WARDOBE household ca 8 Gateside Ave. Directly opposite us Ellis’s at No.15[Google the houses on the net and see where we lived.

When Mrs Wardrobe died ca 1960’s,(SRO RECORDS] her daughter gave Maw two wally dugs, that were wedding presents to Mrs Wardrobe and her Husband from a member of their family[Probably her parents or in-laws?].

Now to get that date of when they were married[1910] I looked up in the Scottish Records Office[SRO]

Mr and Mrs Wardrobe were married in Scotland on 1 July 1910.

So, when Maw migrated, IN CA Feb 1971[needs checked ?????], SHE BROUGHT ONE WALLY DUG WITH HER. I say, one dug, as at that time our younger brother, John had married Anne Adams.
They stayed with Maw[Dad Had died by this time] Then along came their two boys, John and Wull[Joanne came after? Maw migrated to  Australia]

NB all of this story needs DATES[except the marriage] checked FACTUALLY !

MAW BROUGHT OUT THE SURVIVING WALLY DUG, THAT WE STILL HAVE YET, AFTER THE BOYS BROKE ITS PARTNER

THEREFORE THE SURVIVING WALLY DUG IS CURRENTLY CA [2018 MINUS 1910=108 YRS OLD]

NB We have miniature Wally Dugs that i bought in Scotland, which in themselves would be quite old, but how old??
